Gel Basics
I suggest using the following gels when you want to keep it simple and just make people look natural on stage or camera. Use Roscoe #01 Light Bastard Amber to give them a nice little glow or #33 No Color Pink to make them look a little more fleshy. #101 Light Frost is a good diffusion to make the light a little softer. If you are lighting a podium for instance, you could use the Frost on the back (or hair light) and on the Key light and then use the color on the Fill light. This will give you a nice soft light with some depth of field and the color will only hit about 2/3rds of the angle for some contrast.
When you are dim your lights, the color will shift towards red. You can compensate for the lower wattage (and redder color temperature) by using Roscoe #60 No Color Blue. This gel will bring the color back more towards white and allow you to keep the lights dimmer.
#1991 is a heat shield that allows 100% transmission. This is great to use in front of other gels that have very low transmission rates and tend to burn out quickly.
